Cebu City
Historic Spanish-colonial church and significant religious landmark
The Basilica houses the Santo Niño de Cebú, the image Magellan gave to Rajah Humabon's consort in 1521 and the oldest Christian relic in the Philippines.
The present coral-stone church is the fourth on the site; the previous three burned. It is the centre of the Sinulog festival every January, when the surrounding streets close entirely.
In downtown Cebu City, a 15-minute taxi ride from most uptown hotels. Street parking is scarce; use the nearby mall car parks.
